The Villa
Six room categories with character. On the ground floor: Taut's.

From vision to villa
1909 to 1995
Hertha von Siemens wanted factory workers to breathe forest air. In 1909 the Siemens heiress founded a foundation for a convalescent home in Bad Harzburg. The commission went to a young Berlin architecture firm: Bruno Taut and Franz Hoffmann, only just established. It was their very first project.
Taut would later design housing estates that are now UNESCO World Heritage sites. Here at the Ettershaus it all began. He designed everything himself, from the façade to the lamps. Geometric shapes with floral motifs, bold colours in the vestibule.
For more than 80 years Siemens employees came from Berlin to stay here. In 1995 the Villa closed its doors. For 25 years it stood empty. Hidden behind tall trees, with grey concrete tiles on the roof, it was barely recognisable.

The Villa awakens
2019 to today
It could have turned out very differently. A senior residence: plan failed. A fast-food restaurant: blocked by the town council. Several investors tried, all failed. The Taut Villa was facing decay.
Then new investors arrived from Braunschweig. After years of planning and restoration, Das Ettershaus reopened its doors in 2019. Restored in keeping with heritage standards. The grey concrete tiles disappeared, replaced by the original red roof tiles as in 1910. The wooden coffered ceiling from the original building has survived to this day.
The restaurant is now called Taut's, the bar Hoffmann. The architects who once built a convalescent home for workers have their names above the door.

Variety under one roof
The Villa stands on its own. 24 rooms in six categories, no two alike. From the Comfort Double Britz to the Spa Suite Villa Siemens, every category has its own floor plan.
On the ground floor, Taut's cooks. Upstairs, you sleep. In between lies the charm of a house that feels special from the very first step.

Restaurant Taut's
Regional cuisine, served with style
Cooking happens on the ground floor of the Villa. Taut's focuses on seasonal produce from the region. The atmosphere is stylish but never stiff. In the evening, you sit here with a glass of wine and good food.
In the morning the room transforms: a breakfast buffet with fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and the pancake machine that is the absolute favourite among the children.

Junior Suite Glashaus
Light and openness
Large windows, bright rooms. The Junior Suite Glashaus lives up to its name. Plenty of daylight, views into the greenery, ample space and historic style elements tastefully combined with modern touches!
Like all rooms in the Villa: modern bathroom with shower, flat-screen TV, minibar and Wi-Fi. Plus bathrobes for the walk to the pool.
